About Worthy Fashion
Our Story
Worthy Fashion has changed a lot since its days as a one-man operation back in 2005. We've now got a whole team of enthusiastic young employees, our product line has grown greatly, our store is more sleek and efficient and we've taken on new philanthropic causes. But, all of the changes that have taken place developed naturally out of a set of strongly held beliefs that have been there from the start; creativity, an emphatic desire to explore new and unforeseen possibilities and a team mentality will always translate to success and personal satisfaction.
Our founder, Sean McCloskey, encourages that strong entrepreneurial atmosphere by ensuring that each of us is active at every level of the business. On any given day, a team member may pack and ship an order in the morning, maintain accounting records at noon and lead a meeting about search engine marketing before quitting time. This kind of involvement not only espouses a sense of pride and ownership that translates into superior customer service, but also creates an experience which allows us to understand the ups and downs that the recipients of our kiva loans face every day.
Worthy Values - Our Success Means the Success of Others
We believe it is our obligation to give opportunities to entrepreneurs in third world countries through an incredible microloan organization, kiva.org, precisely because we would not still be in business today without the opportunities and assistance we received from others when we needed them most. These entrepreneurs are more than deserving of our help because they display the traits of hard work and cooperation that we believe are the most critical to building a more peaceful and prosperous world.
Every purchase from our site not only helps an entrepreneur, but also bolsters their entire village and assists us, Worthy Fashion, in becoming an example to the rest of the world of what can happen when business is truly driven by good will first, not profit. The best part of all, however, is the fact that once the loans are repaid they are recycled into a kiva-only account, so that with each sale and each loan repaid the total amount we are able to lend snowballs.
Why Stop At Loaning?
While we strongly believe in the good that kiva.org and our microlending is doing, we realize that not everybody shares our passion. There are many great causes in this world - why stop at one? That is why, starting in October 2008, we are working with 14 different organizations that do good in the world. From healthcare to social justice to the arts, we work with charitable organizations that we feel are doing the most with the donations they receive.
In conjunction with these new "Worthy Causes," we have implemented 5-7-10 profit donation system. This means that on orders placed for one item we will donate 5% of the gross profit; we'll donate 7% on orders of two items and we will donate 10% on orders of three products or more. This system ensures that the more profitable we are, the more money our charitable recipients see, which is exactly how it should be in our opinion. This way, our customers can choose the causes that are closest to their hearts with no additional costs added, and feel great about the purchases they are making.
We are genuinely happy to come to work every day because we know we are harnessing the power of commerce to bring opportunity and hope to people who have earned it.
